News crawls slowly in the summer, especially in the MAC when new information is scant, nor is there a high demand for it. This isn't SEC or Big Ten football; most of us will wait until July or August to learn about the 2013 team. (Not us, of course!)
It's as much of an excuse I'll make for not noticing this item by Rick Cassano in last week's Journal-News about suspended Miami wide receiver Nick Harwell, who is still suspended. In fairness, it was pretty buried:
Cassano speculates that Harwell is "unlikely" to return for his senior year, with coach Don Treadwell noting that there is "no change in his status." All we have to go on so far is Cassano's implication that he won't return. He's still on the roster for the 2013 season, but it could be entirely possible they are waiting for the outcome of the charges against Harwell.
For now, Harwell is No. 15 on the MAC list among most receiving yards with 3,166 and No. 2 on the Miami list behind Ryne Robinson. And the waiting game continues.
