Man has this one been good.
NIU and Eastern Illinois keep firing back and forth. After NIU rattled off 30 unanswered points to take a 30-20 lead midway through the third quarter, Panthers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo did what he does best: Throw touchdowns. He tossed three (giving him six so far) more including a go ahead score to give EIU the lead with under 10 minutes left in the game
The quarterback hooked up with his favorite target, Erik Lora, on a 10 yard touchdown, Garoppolo's sixth of the game (yes, 6...that sixth one tied him with Tony Romo for the EIU career lead) to give EIU the six point lead with 9:53 left in the game.
Northern Illinois entered this game with a 23-game home winning streak, the nations longest. The two teams have combined for more than 1,000 yards so far, with Garoppolo accounting for nearly half of that.
