FINAL: Ball St. Hangs On To Beat Toledo 31-24

The Ball St. Cardinals (4-1, 2-0) hung on to win the big MAC West matchup thanks to a late fourth quarter touchdown by running back Jahwan Edwards with 3:01 left in the game which sealed BSU's 31-24 win over Toledo (2-3, 1-1). The score was Edwards third on the day, and recaptured the lead for the Cardinals after David Fluellen notched things up at 24-all a few minutes earlier.

The game lived up to the hype, as both offenses put up big numbers. Toledo finished the game with 415 yards of total offense, while Ball St. edged out 463. After a scoreless third quarter, Toledo opened up the fourth with a 10-yard pass from Terrance Owens to Alonzo Russell which notched the game at 17-17. Over the final 14 minutes, the lead changed two more times as both squads traded blows back and forth.

With 12:11 left Keith Wenning topped off a 2:37 yards drive with a rushing touchdown, his only score of the day. A few drives later Fluellen struck, and then Edwards capped the game off.

Wenning finished the game with 335 yards, 0 passing touchdowns and one interception. Edwards had three scores, on 20 carries for 89 yards. Willie Snead had another monster game hauling in seven passes for 131 yards, and fellow wideout's Jamill Smith and Javond Williams finished with 99 and 92 yards receiving respectively.

For the Rockets Owens finished with 274 yards passing, 1 touchdown and a pick. Fluellen added 129 yards on 27 carries and had one score, that game tying touchdown late in the fourth. Russell led the Toledo receiving core with 147 yards and a touchdown on nine catches.
