Bowling Green Soccer Sees Six Falcons Named to Academic All-Ohio Team

The Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association announced its Academic All-Ohio team and six BSGU men's soccer players including seniors Ryan Comiskey, Anthony Grant, Brandon Silva and Michael Wiest and sophomores Jake Genrich and Ryan James were named the the Academic All-Ohio Second Team.

The total of six players from BGSU was the highest of any institution, and the Falcons beat out powerhouses Akron, Ohio State and Dayton which each had four players chosen, and Cleveland State and Wright State which had two apiece and the University of Cincinnati who had one.

Forward Comiskey was also named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team in his senior year and earned Academic All-MAC First-Team honors. He led the team in scoring, despite starting only four games out of the 18 he played in. Comiskey had 13 points this season, consisting of six goals, two of which came in the final two games of his Falcons career. For his career, he totaled 12 goals, four assists and 28 points in his 67 games as a Falcon.

As an early childhood education major, Comiskey earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.696 at the time of nomination.

Forward Grant, who hails from Kingston, Jamaica, started 15 of the Falcons 19 games and played in all of them. He ended his senior season with 11 points from three goals and four assists which was second for BGSU in all three categories. He also led the team with 66 total shots and 31 shots on goal and tied the Falcons lead with two game-winning goals.

In his two years in the Brown and Orange, Grant had 31 points in 39 games, finishing with seven assists and 12 goals, seven of which were game-winning goals. He also got a 3.590 cumulative GPA as a geography major.

Three-year captain midfielder Silva won a number of accolades while wearing the Falcons uniform. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team after earning all-district first-team honors. He was also named to the Academic All-MAC First Team.

Silva was one of the players that started all 19 games this season where he played 1,866 minutes, only sitting out for 20 of the season's total minutes.He only missed one game, due to injury, during his four year tenure at BGSU. He had a total of six points from two goals and two assists. In his career as a Falcon, he played in 74 games, totaling 17 points from six goals and five assists. Silva graduated from BG in May of 2013 with a Bachelor or Arts degree in psychology and a minor in Spanish and he earned a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Goalkeeper Wiest was an All-MAC Second-Team and was named to the Academic All-MAC First Team. He also played every minute of this season for the second consecutive year in the net and posted eight shutouts, which is the highest total by a BG keeper since 1998. He also had 75 saves, a goals-against average of .82 and a saves percentage of .815.

He also led the MAC in saves percentage and tied the league in shutouts, which rankes him among the MAC's top-three keepers in four other categories. Wiest had 21 career shutouts, a GAA of .98 and a saves percentage of .804. As a physical education teaching major, Wiest held a cumulative GPA of 3.50.

Defender Genrich started 18 times in the centre back position and played in all 19 matches. He played 1,738 minutes on the year and helped the backline keep eight clean sheets for the Falcons. He was also named to the Academic All-MAC Second Team and played every minute of 13 matches, including each of the team's last eight games of the year. He played all 39 games in his first two years, starting 38 of them and helped the team to post 15 shutouts in that span. As a business administration major, Genrich posted a cumulative 3.607.

Midfielder James started 16 of the team's 19 games and totaled four points with a goal and two assists. He played 70 minutes at a minimum in 11 different games for the Brown and Orange. James also earned Academic All-MAC honorable mention and played in all 39 of BGSU's games since he arrived in Bowling Green. In his career he totaled 14 points with five goals and four assists. As an exercise science major, James earned a cumulative GPA of 3.586.
