Turns out Chuck Martin doesn't just bring over assistant coaches from Notre Dame to Miami University. (Our prior coverage of Martin's staff hirings can be found here and here.) He's also got a quarterback coming to Oxford: Notre Dame's Andrew Hendrix, a 2010 graduate of Moeller High School in Cincinnati who will be eligible to play immediately, having already graduated from Notre Dame. (A couple other players are rumored to have transferred as well, but there's no official reports on them yet.)
Hendrix is familiar with Miami, and Miami with Hendrix -- Mike Haywood offered him a scholarship back in April of 2009. Of course, when you're a blue chip prospect (Hendrix was one of the top pro-style quarterback prospects in the country), the MAC school often isn't where you end up, and Hendrix had offers from traditional power schools across the land. Notre Dame beat out the likes of Miami (FL), Ohio State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Stanford, and Nebraska for his services.
Hendrix's time in South Bend didn't lead to glory: Everett Golson and Tommy Rees passed him on the depth chart, and his playing time was limited to four games this past season, three in his junior year, and five in his sophomore year. But he may be exactly what the RedHawks need for next season -- a player who already knows the offense and can start right away if necessary. Hendrix will also bring natural leadership talent to the locker room, and he'll provide great competition for sophomore Tom Tupa, who's being groomed as Miami's quarterback of the future.
So welcome aboard, Andrew Hendrix. We're happy to have you in Oxford.
