Oakland enters tonight's game with an 0-1 record, but they certainly have some confidence coming into Ypsilanti. The Golden Grizzlies opened up their season at #14 Iowa State and battled until late in a 93-82 contest. Eastern Michigan comes into this game with a 1-0 record, their lone win coming against St Francis University 64-52.
This will be an intriguing matchup between schools slated to finish in the middle of the pack in their respective conferences, but whom also are projected as a potential sleeper team that could surprise some teams. Oakland's offense runs primarily through 2014 Horizon Freshmen of the Year Kahlil Felder and 6'10'' big man Corey Petros, who both went for 20+ points against the Big 12's Iowa State. Eastern Michigan is again led by forward Karrington Ward. EMU made a point this offseason to add some depth, especially in the front court. By looking at their roster, you can tell they succeeded, it features NINE transfers! Look for a great battle down low between OU's Petros and the big body rotation of EMU. Another key will be how Felder controls the flow of the offense for Oakland against a very stout defensive EMU team.
Did you Know?
- Oakland is coached by Greg Kampe...for the past 31 years! That is the 3rd longest current streak by a coach with their current team. (Boeheim, Coach K)
- This is the 15th meeting between the schools. EMU leads the series 9-5
