How To Watch 2014 NIT Selection Show: TV, Online Streaming

Looking to watch the 2014 NIT Selection Show and see if and where any MAC schools may be seeded? Here's how.

Michael Heiman

Though the Mid-American Conference may be a one-bid league, that doesn't mean only one team gets to play on after Cleveland. There are several other post season college basketball tournaments out there to provide those deserving teams that just missed the cut for the big NCAA Tournament a chance to dance on. One such tournament is the National Invitational Tournament, or NIT.

The 76-year-old tournament has developed a reputation as being home to the losers; those teams not quite good enough to make it to the big dance, but that's unfair. With the biased view of bigger conferences as being far superior to the mid-majors there are often several deserving teams that are left out. The NIT provides them with a way to play on a prove that they were deserving.

The MAC has one such team: Toledo, which has 27 wins on the year but didn't win the conference tournament. While the MAC hasn't had much recent success in the NIT (Ohio was bounced out in Round 1 this past year) and the MAC hasn't had a team reach the championship game since Toledo lost to St. Johns in 1942 but this year's Toledo team is loaded offensively and will be fired up after losing the MAC Championship and not getting invited to the big dance.

The NIY has an official selection show, after the NCAA Tournament 68-team field is set. It airs Sunday night (tonight) at 8:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. CT) on ESPNU. Can't get to a TV in time? No worries, if you have a valid cable subscription with one of WatchESPN's partners you can stream the show online using the WatchESPN app.

We'll be reacting to the selection here in our open thread, here.
