MAC Baseball: Another Weekend, Another Conference Preview

Four teams are 4-5 in conference play. All of them are playing teams that have better winning percentages.

Lee Longo (.382/.440/.527) and the Eagles take on Northern Illinois at home this weekend.

Western Michigan @ Buffalo

Game 1: Fri. 4 p.m. Steve Laudicina vs. Mike McGee
Game 2: Sat. 1 p.m. Chad Mayle vs. Anthony Magovney
Game 3: Sun. 1 p.m. Keegan Akin vs. Mike Burke

Both teams have four wins in conference play and sit right in the middle of the MAC standings and in the middle of their respective divisions. This looks like it's going to be one of those series where it all comes down to the possible rubber match on Sunday with Akin and Burke both taking the mound.

Ohio @ Akron

Game 1: Fri. 3 p.m. Jake Roehn vs. John Valek III
Game 2: Sat. 1 p.m. Jake Rudnicki vs. JT Brubaker
Game 3: Sun. 1 p.m. Connor Sitz vs. Myle McVeigh

Ohio could sweep the Zips this weekend and they still wouldn't have 10 wins for the entire season. They're on a seven-game losing streak with their last win being on march 28 against Western Michigan. They were on a nine-game losing streak when that finally happened.

Miami @ Kent State

Game 1: Fri. 6 p.m. Seth Varner vs. Eric Lauer
Game 2: Sat. 6 p.m. Nathan Williams vs. Nick Jensen-Clagg
Game 3: Sun 1 p.m. TBD vs. Brian Clark

Will this be the weekend where outfielder Alex Miklos (.377/.462/.615) finally cools off against the RedHawks? Let's back this up little bit more: will this be the weekend Kent State loses a series against a MAC opponent? In their last seven games, the Golden Flashes have outscored their opponents 84-23. Good luck with that one, Miami pitching.

Ball State @ Toledo

Game 1: Fri. 3:05 p.m. Scott Baker vs. Ryan Wilkinson
Game 2: Sat. 1:05 p.m. TJ Weir vs. Sam Shutes
Game 3: Sun. 1:05 p.m. Zach Plesac vs. Steven Calhoun

Coming off of a monstrous weekend on the road in Ypsilanti, Ball State's offense is going to be pretty intimidating this weekend in Toledo. The Rockets are 4-5 in conference play much like Bowling Green, Miami and Western Michigan, so this is a great opportunity to make some noise in the standings.

Central Michigan @ Bowling Green

Game 1: Fri. 3 p.m. Jordan Foley vs. Mike Frank
Game 2: Sat. 1 p.m. Pat Kaminska vs. Devin Daugherty
Game 3: Sun 1 p.m. Nick Deeg vis Andrew Lacinak

The Chippewas has the best pitching staff in the MAC with a conference best 2.92 earned run average (Kent State is second with a 3.90). Mike Frank for Bowling Green is coming off of a fantastic start last week in his 12-strikeout complete game tossed against the Broncos, lowering his ERA total to 3.40.

Northern Illinois @ Eastern Michigan

Game 1: Fri. 6 p.m. Anthony Andres vs. TBA
Game 2: Sat. 3 p.m. Eli Anderson vs. TBA
Game 3: Sun. 1 p.m. Alex Klonowski vs. TBA

The Eagles sit at the bottom of the MAC standings and really needs to win a series soon if they want any chance at making an appearance in the MAC tournament. EMU's pitching staff has been awful this season, but luckily they're facing the worst offense in the conference.
