Ohio's Donte Foster Signs With Minnesota Vikings

Donte Foster is now a Vikings

USA TODAY Sports

Former Ohio wide receiver has signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent following going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft

At Ohio Foster turned into one of the school's best wide receivers ever alongside quarterback Tyler Tettleton. He's one of only two wide receivers in program history to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season. He's also the school's leader in career touchdown receptions.

Coming out of high school as an unranked prospect, Foster caught nine pases for 151 yards and one score. As a sophomore the Oklahoma native caught 30 passes for 352 yards and five touchdowns. He improved in 2012 to haul in 59 passes for 659 yards and eight scores. This past season he took another step in his game, moving into the 'Cats true No. 1 receiver role, and catching 69 passes for 1,018 yards and seven scores.

PRO DAY RESULTS:

HEIGHT: 6-foot-1

WEIGHT: 188 lbs

40-YARD DASH: 4.48 sec

20-YARD SHUTTLE: 4.30 sec

VERTICAL: 42''

BROAD JUMP: 130''

Foster is a fast, agile receiver with good hands. At 6-foot-1, 193 pounds, he's not large, but he's not small and can avoid getting knocked around. His 4.48 40 time at his Pro Day shows he's got NFL level speed, and he's an explosive leaper (42 inch vertical, 130 inch broad jump) with soft hands. The former All-Oklahoma basketball player should be a threat in the red zone, where he can go up in the corner and snag a ball over a defensive back's head.

Foster's route running is crisp, and he's agile in his breaks. But he's not a vertical deep threat guy. He's more of an underneath guy, and doesn't make good use of the field after the catch. Also, his lack of top-level production at Ohio make it hard to really tell if he can succeed at the NFL level. The good thing from that is he did improve vastly in each season.

Foster factors to be a solid No. 3 option in time, a guy who can go across the middle and help out the short passing game.
