UPDATE: contrary to reports Saturday night, it doesn't appear that the deal between the Steelers and Terrance Owens went through. as of this time, he is not a part of the Steelers organization.

Terrance Owens didn't hear his name called during the seven rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft, but he did sign on with the Pittsburgh Steelers shortly after its conclusion.
Owens, a 6-foot-4, 205 pound lefty, was the Rockets starter for much of the past four seasons, stepping in as the starter near the end of his redshirt freshman season when starter Austin Dantin went down with injury. Over the course of his four seasons he threw for 8,203 yards, 63 touchdowns (to 25 interceptions) and added 918 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
A supreme athlete, Owens was actually drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 40th round of the 2012 MLB draft, despite not playing baseball in college. Owens best season in Toledo was arguably his sophomore year, when he threw for 2,022 yards, 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions, while completing 72 percent of his throws.
Must Reads
He's not exactly a dual threat QB, as his 4.79 40 would prove, but he is mobile, and agile. He's got some good upside as a change of pace quarterback, but he's unlikely to change positions at the NFL level and has some kinks in his mechanics, most notably his throwing motion. He does, however, have an incredibly strong arm, capable of making NFL quality throws, and he's flashed instances of high accuracy, but needs to improve there overall.
In Pittsburgh, Owens joins an organization known for its scouting of MAC talent. Starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played at Miami. Current backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski is actually a Toledo alum, number one receiver Antonio Brown is a CMU alum, starting safety Mike Mitchell is an Ohio alum. The Steelers took a pair of MAC players in this year's Draft: Kent State's Dri Archer, and UMass' Rob Blanchflower.
It's unlikely this is Owen's final landing spot, but if he can beat out Landry Jones for the Steelers' third quarterback spot this summer, he could make the roster.
