The line, both offensive and defensive is an area of focus for the Rockets with the 2015 recruiting class. Head coach Matt Campbell and staff have went hard after the offensive side of the line with six o-lineman committed to the 2015 class already, but the defensive side of the line hadn't received much attention. That changed at the end of May.
2015 defensive tackle Chad Coeling, the eighth member of the Rockets' 2015 class, committed to the Rockets over an offer from MAC West rival Ball State. The 2-star defensive tackle has impressive size, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 290 pounds.
The Centerville, Ohio native is incredibly strong with a powerful bull rush and the ability to plow through offensive lineman. As to be expected for a player his size, he's not as explosive out of his stance, but that can improve over time. His athleticism also is more average than good and his hands are bit slow making it harder for him to shed blocks, but his technique is solid and he has the ability to be a future All-MAC performer on the Rockets' defensive line.
