It's been a pretty bumpy ride for the Central Michigan 2015 recruiting class. After losing head coach Dan Enos to Arkansas, and defensive coordinator Joe Tumpkin to Colorado over the last few weeks, the recently signed seniors can finally rest a little easier.
Searching high, and low for the right man to run the program since the untimely departure of Enos, CMU ended their hunt on Sunday, naming John Bonamego, a former Chippewas player, and long time NFL assistant as their next head coach.
With all the excitement behind the hiring of Bonamego. and the future of the Central Michigan program, Hustle Belt caught up with a few of the class of 2015 signees, and got their opinion on their new ball coach:
Logan Slaughter - OL - Mendon, MI
"I am very excited to have Coach Bonamego at the head coach position. I have not had a chance to talk with him yet, but the commits are planning on trying to meet him sometime soon. I think that CMU is getting an experienced coach who does a good job of getting players into good position for success, and one that will manage the game well."
Derek Smith - OL - Grand Rapids, MI
"Excited is an understatement. We are getting a guy who knows football. He has NFL experience which is the highest level of football. I think he knows the background, and history of the Chippewas, and will make the program go in the right direction."
Louis Grigoletti - OL - Riverside, IL
"I was glad that our head coach was decided on not too long after signing day. I haven't gotten a chance to talk with Coach Bonamego yet, but I'm looking forward to meeting him, and getting to know him. I think CMU was looking for a coach that can bring new life, enthusiasm, and change to an already great program. I know that were heading in a great direction, and I'm just thankful for this opportunity, and all that lies ahead of me with the great group of teammates, and coaches."
Mike Danna - DL - Warren, MI
"I'm happy we hired a coach from the big leagues, and can't wait to meet him. I think we're getting a coach who understands the game of football down to the roots. He may have a plan for us already, and we just got to listen."
Austin Ervin - TE - St. Johns, MI
"I've heard nothing but good things about Coach Bonamego. I am very excited to meet him. I think they are getting a quality man who will continue to lead this program in the right direction. Bright future."
Shahid Bellamy - DL - Oak Park, MI
"I think it's great. I know he wants to come, and instantly bring in championships, and that is exactly what I and the rest of the boys plan to do. Help bring championships to CMU."
