Eastern Michigan accepted a bid to the College Basketball Invitational on Sunday evening and will travel to Monroe, Louisiana to take on the UL-Monroe Warhawks in the first round. The game will likely start at 7.
The Warhawks have had a few down years before this one, which is their best in awhile. They finished at 21-12 overall and 14-6 in the Sun Belt, one of the better mid-major conferences. UL-Monroe opened their season with a win over NCAA Tournament-bound UAB and lost at Florida by five in overtime.
Senior forward Tylor Ongwae is the Warhawks' leader, averaging 13.5 points and seven rebounds per game. They don't score a lot, averaging 64 points per game which is 256th in the nation. Rebounding is a strong point though, as they are a top fifty team in that category.
If the Eagles win, they will take on the winner of the Stony Brook-Mercer tilt. Stony Brook made it all the way to the America East Championship game before losing to Albany. You may remember Mercer as the team that knocked off Duke in last year's NCAA Tournament.
The CBI is a bracketed-style tournament, unlike the CIT. But, the finals are a best-of-three format, where the first team to win two games against the other wins the entire tournament.
