Just a few days after naming a top three of Northern Illinois, Toledo and Boston College, three-star class of 2016 linebacker Eric Rogers has shocked some around the scene by announcing his verbal commitment to P.J. Fleck and Western Michigan while visiting the Kalamazoo campus on Tuesday.
"I visited today and told them. They were hype to hear it. Coach Fleck is doing something special here and I want to be by his side through it." Rogers, who picked Western Michigan over scholarship offers from not just Toledo, Northern Illinois, and Boston College, but also programs such as Ball State, Bowling Green, Kent State, and Cincinnati stated to Hustle Belt soon after his commitment.
After losing one time commit Joe Bachie (Berea,OH/Midpark) to Michigan State earlier in the process it left the Bronco coaching staff searching to fill the slot with another elite linebacker. Fleck, and crew have definitely did that with the addition of Rogers. According to the 247Sports Composite, the 6'1, 225-pound standout is currently ranked the 38th inside linebacker, and 951st overall prospect in the 2016 class.
Helping lead Warren Michigan's De La Salle Collegiate to an overall record of 11-3 and a state championship last season as a junior, Rogers finished the year off with nearly 120 total tackles, three interceptions, and two sacks.
With Rogers now in the class the Broncos are back at 15 verbal commitments.
