MORNING DUMP: Do we really know anything anymore about MAC basketball?

The short answer: no. The long answer? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooope.

Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports

  • Let's look at the state of #MACsketball at the moment. NIU just moved to 12-0 at home after taking advantage of CMU's second half woes, while Kent State downed Ball State behind 22 points from Xavier Pollard. Both squads lead their respective divisions, while favorites CMU (2-3 MAC) and Akron (3-2) are struggling to keep pace. What even is life?
  • The Toledo Rockets have had some good times and bad times this week. They secured their fifth straight victory over hated rival BGSU in the Hardwood Battle of I-75, but lost another football recruit to Iowa State, where former head coach Matt Campbell is setting up base.
  • Hey, speaking of recruiting, some headlines were made over at fellow SB Nation blog Maize N' Brew when Class of 2017 RB/OLB Antjuan Simmons left his hometown Wolverines off his Top 11 list. Luckily for #MACtion fans, the high 3-star/low 4-star recruit is seriously considering the Miami RedHawks. Maybe he got scared off by the prospect of a Jim Harbaugh sleepover.
  • If Simmons does end up at Miami University, he can't use his hoverboard to get to class. The University joined several others across the nation in banishing the latest technological trend after reports of spontaneous combustion.
  • Ya'll thought the bowl games were over. Little do you realize, they're just starting. Joe Licata and Great Ibe took part in the inaugural Tropic Bowl this past weekend, where Ibe took away MVP honors and Licata made an impressive showing. Blake Frohnaphel and Tajae Sharpe have also made noise at practice for the Shrine Game.
  • Wait, James, you mentioned UMass people. You can't do that anymore. 1) I did. 2) They played in the MAC last season, and 3) they made some surprising news yesterday, with five players leaving the program en masse, including Shadrack Abrokwah and Lorenzo Woodley.
  • Finally, buy our t-shirt already. You know you want one.
