A tough game for the Miami RedHawks just got a lot tougher as Billy Bahl has been ruled out of Saturday’s game at the Akron Zips and Noah Wezensky has been named the starter at quarterback. The injury to Bahl puts Chuck Martin’s offense in a bind as it takes on an Akron defense that is considered one of the best in the conference.

The true freshman played admirably against the Ohio Bobcats last weekend in relief of Bahl by going 14-of-25 for 154 yards and a touchdown, despite the 4.4 yards per attempt and the three sacks.

With a week of reps in practice, Wezensky ought to be more prepared than he was last week and looks to make the RedHawks competitive against the MAC East-leading Akron.

Injuries have plagued the QB position for the ‘Hawks as Gus Ragland was injured in spring ball and freshman Jordan Martin sustained an injury fall camp that has kept him out thus far this season. This leaves Wezensky as the only active quarterback on the roster, meaning true freshman wide receiver Jack Sorenson will take over backup quarterback for Saturday’s game as an emergency option.

Miami will play Akron on the road at 3 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday afternoon.
