2016-17 MAC Men’s Basketball Recap: Central Michigan Chippewas vs. Green Bay Phoenix

Marcus Keene leads all scorers with 31 points, as Central Michigan defeats the Green Bay Phoenix, 89,77.

Marcus Keene led all scorers with 31 points, the fifth time Keene has scored 30+ in seven games, as Central Michigan pulls away late from Green Bay, 89-77. Keene also dished out five assists and grabbed four rebouds. Central Michigan moves to 5-2 and Green Bay falls to 3-3.

Braylon Rayson contributed 19 points, and gave out five assists and seven rebounds on the night. Cecil Williams added 13 points and eight rebounds and Josh Kozinski added 12 points on four three pointers.

For Green Bay, Charles Cooper led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds. Khalil Small had 14 points and nine rebounds to help Cooper and the Phoenix. Jamar Hurdle and Warren Jones each contributed nine points for Green Bay.

This game was a game of scoring runs, as both teams looked to push the tempo and run up and down the floor. The Chippewas were able to knock down a season high 14 three-pointers and drive the lane to get to the free throw line. Green Bay struggled to make the three pointer, going just 6 of 26 from beyond the arc, but were also able to draw fouls and get to the free throw line. Both teams went to the line 25 times, with Central Michigan converting on 19 of them, and Green Bay on 17. The Chippewas were able to out rebound the Phoenix, 50-49, grabbing just one more offensive rebound then Green Bay.

These two teams will meet again this year in Mount Pleasant on December 6th to finish the series.

The Chippewas will return home on Tuesday, November 29th to face the William and Mary Tribe. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
