There’s little doubt that in the Mid-American Conference that 2016 was the year of the Bronco but perhaps the most satisfying story out of the MAC this year may very well be the Eastern Michigan Eagles and their resurgence. For Chris Creighton, the return to relevance was expected but perhaps not so soon, as has has already taken EMU to a bowl in his third year at the helm, their first bowl since 1987. This season’s 7-5 campaign for the Eagles saw them go .500 in the conference and win two of their last three to earn their invite.
Old Dominion has been their own good story, as well. This is their first bowl appearance in school history, having only recently made the transition to the FBS division. They clock in at 9-3, and won their final five games of the 2016 campaign to earn their ticket to Atlantis and their date with the Eagles.
If you’re looking for defense, this may not be the game for you. It’s almost a forgone conclusion that this contest, kicking off at 1pm on ESPN, will be an offensegasm of usual MAC-ness. It’s a QB showdown between EMU’s Brogan Roback and ODU’s David Washington, both over 2000 yards for the year and both capable of lighting up the scoreboard and opposing defenses, both of which is possible in this Popeye’s Bahamas Bowl.
