The Toledo Rockets travel to Montgomery to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers, in the 3rd edition of the Camellia Bowl. In a match-up of Sunbelt vs. MAC, this will be the rubber match. BGSU beat South Alabama in the first one while Appalachian State knocked off Ohio last season.
Appalachian State won the Sunbelt, and has two great running backs. Marcus Cox ran for over 1400 yards in each of the previous two seasons. He has 872 yards this year, on 6.4 yards per carry in only 8 games. He has rushed for over 100 in 6 of them. Jalin Moore has rushed for 1367 yards this season, averaging 6.2.
Taylor Lamb is a solid passer, with over 2000 yards on the season, and 14 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He has added 380 yards and 8 TDs on the ground.
When Toledo has the ball, quarterback Logan Woodside will try to get the ball to one of his many weapons. Cody Thompson, Jon’Vea Johnson, and Corey Jones are one of the best receiving corps in the entire country. In addition, he has Michael Roberts at tight end. His 15 receiving touchdowns are 6th in the nation and second in the MAC this season.
The Rockets also have a stable of backs, led by Kareem Hunt. His 112.9 yards per game lead the MAC.
They go against the best defense in the Sunbelt. The Mountaineers only gave up 17 points and 326 yards per game. They are a battle tested team that faced Miami and Tennessee this season, along with Akron. The Mountaineers beat the Zips 45-38, while Toledo beat them 48-17, for the teams only common opponent on the season.
