Toledo Rockets head coach Jason Candle has confirmed the suspensions of defensive tackle Marquise Moore along with linebackers Jaylen Coleman and Anthony Davis due to “violations of athletic department policies,” according to College Football Talk.
Both Coleman and Moore were projected starters on the Rockets defense heading into 2016. Coleman, Moore, and reserve linebacker Anthony Davis will miss Toledo's season opener against Arkansas State as well as their home opener against Maine. All three players are set to return for a home contest against Fresno State in mid-September.
Last season, Coleman had his season cut short by a broken leg. During the six games Coleman competed in, he lead the Rockets in tackles. Sophomore Richard Olekanma will be looked upon as the main linebacker during Coleman’s absence.
Moore appeared in all 12 games last season, tallying four tackles, and was listed as the No. 1 defensive tackle on preseason depth charts. Backup Lamarr Davis will get his first action as a Toledo Rocket during Moore’s two game leave. Lamarr Davis sat out the his entire freshman season in 2015 as a redshirt.
Anthony Davis appeared in four games last year, wrapping up three tackles. He was listed as the fourth linebacker on Toledo’s post-spring depth chart.
