Extensive Notes On Michael Warren And Morgan Ellison
2017 Toledo (Ohio) three-star RB Michael Warren is the biggest target the Rockets have ever recruited. He has embraced the hometown hero act as he has already led Central Catholic High School to a state championship in 2014 and 2015 state runner up.
Toledo has been trending up for Warren for a few months now since he decommitted from Kentucky. Not to mention, the Rockets have made his top three, which consists of Iowa State, Toledo and Kentucky. But even better news for Rocket fans is I was able to confirm that Toledo does indeed lead for Warren.
As of right now, the plan for Warren is to announce his commitment in late August. A date I have heard thrown around is August 23rd. I fully expect when the time comes, Warren to somewhat shock the world and stay home by picking the Rockets.
The other top running back on Toledo’s recruiting board is 2017 Pickerington (Ohio) three-star RB Morgan Ellison. The Pickerington native is probably the most under-the-radar prospect in the country. He has been called the “nation’s best kept secret” and more. Not to mention, but at the Columbus regional opening he scored the highest Sparq score and won RB MVP.
In terms of his recruitment, he only has five total offers from Ball State, Toledo, Miami of Ohio, Youngstown State and Ohio. Toledo currently has the lead within Ellison’s recruitment just barely in front of Miami of Ohio. Ellison has missed out on two years of his high school career due to injuries. However, if he can stay healthy and performs like he has this off season, he may blow up with offers. If he doesn’t blow up with offers, then I think Toledo ends up with a huge steal.
Kelvin Ateman - The Detroit Cass Tech High School offensive tackle committed to Toledo a few months ago after a visit. But he re-opened his recruitment shortly after and informed me that he wanted to “weigh all his options.” I had a chance to talk to Ateman and his father, Toledo still remains the leader and plans to visit this fall for an official visit. I still fully expect him to re-commit to Toledo, but he is getting heavy interest from Syracuse and others.
Arlington Hambright - A former JUCO Toledo commit, from Garden City Community College committed to Toledo back in late May. However, he then opened his recruitment back up several weeks ago. Similar to Ateman, Toledo still remains the leader for him. I expect his recruitment to be very slow as he informed me that all his attention will be on his upcoming season. A few weeks ago, he did visit Georgia for a camp to try and receiver an offer. Hambright is also receiving interest from Auburn and Minnesota. Toledo will be in this until the end.
Brian Roberts - The former Central Michigan commit has been trending towards Toledo ever since he decommited from the Chippewa’s on July 1st. The Rockets were still in contact with him even when he was committed to CMU, so the relationship and bond is already there. In addition, Toledo has another point in it’s direction as Roberts’ former high school teammate, Jacquez Williams, which he has a good relationship with is a freshman at Toledo. Appalachian State and Florida International both sit in great position for the former CMU commit.
Jayvon Graves Sets Official Visit
2017 Akron (Ohio) PG Jayvon Graves is Toledo’s top target on the basketball recruiting trail for the 2017 class. After his visit on June 17th, the Rockets currently sit within Graves’ top three; both Butler and Buffalo are also within that group.
The Rockets took another positive step within his recruitment as he has officially set up an official visit to Toledo on September 10th. His father and mother are both expected to come on the visit, which is a huge bonus for the coaching staff as they will have a chance to impress both Graves and his parents. Not to mention, it may just push Toledo ahead within his recruitment.
Malik Horton Takes Toledo Official Visit
2017 Fairborn (Ga.) three-star OLB Malik Horton recently took an unofficial visit on August 6th to Toledo. This is somewhat of a big deal as he holds offers from Colorado, Maryland and Louisville. His visit was a success and has the Rockets looking like a real factor within his recruitment and may become even more of a threat as he plans to officially visit Toledo this fall.
The Rockets offered Horton back in May and added several offers later. Even though, Maryland and Colorado are currently sticking out among the rest. However, Toledo Head Coach Jason Candle has put the full-court press on Horton by pursuing him very heavily.
