If you’ve watched any sort of coverage of college basketball on the Worldwide Leader over the last few years, you’re familiar with Jay Bilas. I would argue that there is no more knowledgable a commentator or entertaining a human being than Bilas. So it’s pretty exciting when someone like that comes to get a little taste of MACtion, as Bilas is doing on a Toledo visit in October.
Per Toledo’s release...
ESPN game and studio analyst Jay Bilas will serve as the guest speaker for Toledo’s annual Rocket Roundball Social being held on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on the main floor in Savage Arena. University of Toledo President Sharon Gaber is hosting the event and all proceeds will go directly to the University of Toledo Men’s Basketball Progress Fund.
The Rocket Roundball Social, which is an event that has grown into a UT Basketball tradition, offers individuals the opportunity to meet Dr. Gaber, Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk, his staff and players while enjoying food from some of Toledo’s finest restaurants.
I mean, that’s a pretty big grab for the Rockets, or really any program. If you want to see Bilas speak, and hang out with the upper crust in Toledo, it won’t be cheap. Individual tickets will run you $75 and a reserved table of 10 fetches $1000. There’s also a silent auction where you can get things like an All Access pass to a game of your choosing or go on a roadtrip with the team.
It’s been an eventful summer of fundraising opportunities for your favorite MAC team ($1600 EMU mesh seats, anyone?) so it’s nice to see it close with a solid idea that actually is a good one. So nice work, Toledo.
