Western Michigan and Toledo recruiting notebook

The latest Western Michigan and Toledo football recruiting news and scoop is here with the Hustle Belt Recruiting Notebook.

Could Western Michigan Land A 5-star OT?

Something that I am starting to here more and more of is how Western Michigan is a dark horse contender for 2017 Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) 5-star OL Tedarrell Slaton. Before Bronco fans start losing their minds, the top 100 OL has offers from programs like Alabama, Michigan, Clemson, and many others.

There are a few reasons why Slaton is even considering Western Michigan. First, his lifetime goal of playing college basketball could come true as the Broncos are offering him as a basketball scholarship. Second, his brother, Drake LaMont is a junior C/PF at Western Michigan. Not to mention, he has made the trip up to Kalamazoo a few times to visit and see his brother.

I have been hearing for a while that Western Michigan is a major threat as Slaton’s goal of playing basketball is a real and passionate one. Even though it’s hard to believe that he would pick the Broncos over programs like Miami, Florida, Michigan, Alabama, and Clemson. The picture of his real attentions are very unclear, but sources I have talked to tell me that Western Michigan has a legit shot because of the family connections and the basketball opportunity.

WMU Commit WR Chris Bell Receives CMU Offer

2017 Kankakee (IL.) three-star WMU WR commit Chris Bell has been committed to the Broncos for about six months now. Like Hustle Belt reported earlier, he recently received an offer from Central Michigan last week. I was able to gather some more info on where his recruitment is going.

The goal for Bell and his parents is to visit Central Michigan sometime this fall for an official visit. Whether that makes the staff unhappy or not. He is still 100-percent committed and I expect him to stay committed unless Central Michigan rolls out the red-carpet and really impresses him. However, I have a gut feeling that Bell will blow up close to National Signing Day and the coaching staff will then see a real recruiting battle.

Interesting Toledo Recruiting Tweet

The tweet above from major Toledo target 2017 Pickerington (Ohio) RB Morgan Ellison made some Toledo fans get a little excited. Well, I did some research into this tweet and here’s what I found:

As we all know, 2017 Toledo (Ohio) RB Michael Warren is Toledo’s biggest target within the last few cycles. He is expected to make his decision sometime this month between Iowa State, Kentucky, and Toledo. I fully expect Toledo to land Warren when he announces his decision in the near future based on the location and relationship he has with the coaching staff.

However, I have been informed by a fellow Toledo commit that Ellison may commit to Toledo when Warren does. That would make a lot of sense as both are the Rockets top offensive prospects left on the board and have a solid relationship. Despite Ellison mentioning that he wants to take all of his official visits this fall, he may just end his recruitment early and keep hearing from bigger interest programs like Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Michigan State, and others.

Toledo Rising For Joshua Maize?

2017 Deerfield (IL.) three-star DE Joshua Maize recently received an offer from Toledo. I have been hearing from multiple people that Toledo has now taken the lead within his recruitment due to the pursuit from the coaching staff. Also, he plans to take an official visit to the Rockets this summer.

Maize is receiving interest from a lot of programs, but both Penn State and Illinois have been looking and haven’t offered yet. If he doesn’t blow up to much on the recruiting trail, I expect Toledo to land a talented defensive end.
