The MAC Pick'em. Our yearly installment of madness that has grown from simple comments-based participation, to 100+ players a week in a Google Form. In the five years of doing this, I never thought we'd get this far, so thank you for allowing this to stay alive and well.
This year, we're adding a new twist: Confidence Points. It was suggested by former editor Alex Alvarado, then perfected by me. No thanks are needed. Here's how it'll work
- All base scoring from the past years' remains the same. This means that each game has a base worth of one point per MAC school. Each game also can be worth double its base total by being deemed "Game of the Week" in each week's poll.
- Each game comes with a confidence selection. This is where you can multiply your fun. Are you confident that Kent State will knock off 'Bama? Put 12 confidence points on that puppy and let it ride. If you get the game correct, you get the confidence points for that game TIMES the base value of that game. The more confidence points you place, the more you stand to win.
- No more High-Low, and beware of the confidence allocation. I'm only going to say this once, so here it goes: if you have the same confidence point value for two or more games, those games will be given a confidence value of 1. You'll still get points, just not as much.
Ok? So let's get to it!
Thursday, September 1st
Presbyterian vs Central Michigan - The Chips open their season with a laugher. Welcome back, football!
Friday, September 2nd
Mississippi Valley State vs Eastern Michigan - The Eagles have a really good shot to go 3-1 in non-conference play. Beating an FCS team is a good start towards that goal.
Ball State vs Georgia State - Call me an optimist, but the Neu Era gets started with a win the Georgia Dome.
Albany vs Buffalo - So. Many. FCS. Teams.
Toledo vs Arkansas State - Remember when the Rockets destroyed the Red Wolves last year? Good times. Goooooood times.
Saturday, September 3rd
Western Michigan vs Northwestern - This may be the only game the Broncos drop all season. It may be the first of a few. Either way, this appears to be the toughest opponent on WMU's schedule, and it should be a close game.
Bowling Green vs Ohio State - The Falcons' mindset should be, "just stay healthy". If they lose 2-3 players to injury in this game, that could set the table for a long season.
Kent State vs Penn State - Fun Fact: This game is banned from streaming in 32 countries and 5 states as "cruel punishment". Ok, so it isn't, but it should be.
Miami vs Iowa - Maybe in three years, RedHawks
Texas State vs Ohio - In case you need a mid-day nap, this game is on CBSSN.
VMI vs Akron - Bowden should have his Zips moving towards that elusive MAC East title after this one.
Northern Illinois vs Wyoming - The easy "Brown and Gold".
