Toledo is giving Western Michigan a serious run for their money on the class of 2017 recruiting trail so far. Their case for best recruiting class in the MAC only strengthened on Monday afternoon when they landed 4-star running back Michael Warren.

Warren took an unofficial visit to Toledo this past weekend and announced his decision shortly after.

Warren chose the Rockets over reported offers from Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Rutgers, Iowa, and Western Michigan.

He may just be the most highly touted recruit in Toledo’s history. 247Sports ranks Warren as a top 15 running back for the class of 2017 and a top ten player in the state of Ohio.

As a junior, Warren totaled 2,246 yards and scored 28 touchdowns. He currently attends Central Catholic which is just down the road from the University of Toledo.

He excels at catching the ball out of the backfield and also is a legitimate kickoff return threat on special teams. With Kareem Hunt graduating after this year, Warren could be in line to see playing time as a true freshman. At the very least, the coaching staff will find a way to work Warren into their gameplan on a weekly basis early in his career at Toledo.

He will come into the Glass Bowl with extremely high expectations as many are labeling him a potential “hometown hero”. However, if anyone is up to the challenge, it’s certainly Warren.
