Recap
FCS opponent or not, Eastern Michigan fans need to celebrate their bottoms off tonight as they start 2016 off with an absolute bang. It was complete domination from the Eagles on both sides of the ball as they held MVSU scoreless until just over 12 minutes remained in the game, with EMU holding onto a 54-0 advantage.
Offensively, the Eagles soared for 479 yards of offense, while holding the Delta Devils to 169 total yards and just 22 on the ground. Shaq Vann was the offensive standout for EMU, racking up 156 yards on 20 carries with 2 TDs. It was a consistent effort and high energy affair for EMU, who jumped to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and poured it on from there.
When was it over?
At the end of the first quarter it was obvious that EMU had an overmatched opponent. They exerted their will throughout and after the first stanza this one was never in doubt.
The Takeaway
For Eastern Michigan fans, I would normally say let’s not blow a win over an undermanned FCS program out of proportion, but dammit, Eastern needs a reason to celebrate and have hope and this is definitely that. Extrapolating out season plans or prognostication given the quality of opponent is fool’s gold, but at bare minimum, Eastern Michigan was able to put on a show for their fans and have them leave The Factory feeling good about the football world and their place in it. That hasn’t been the case in quite a while in Ypsi.
