The Falcons were able to keep it close in the first half, only trailing 36-29. The Eagles opened the second half with a 10-0 run, and never looked back. The game was over long before the final score of 81-53.
Willie Mangum IV came off the bench to lead the Eagles with 19 points. James Thompson IV scored 16 on 7 of 9 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds. Ty Toney also scored 16 and Tim Bond added 14.
Zack Denny led the Falcons with 14 points, and Demajeo Wiggins added 11 points and 7 rebounds. The 4 starting guards for the Falcons shot 5-22. Sometimes it just isn’t your night, even on your home court.
Eastern Michigan held a rebounding edge 32-30, but the Falcons were leading when the game was still competitive, and had 17 offensive boards on the game. The Eagles shot 58% from the floor and 41% beyond the arc. That coupled with the 18 Falcon turnovers proved to be the difference in the game.
It seemed to me that Wiggins and the Falcons were trying too hard, and the more that didn’t work, the harder they tried, which led to mistakes and missed shots. Sometimes you can want to win just a little too much.
The Eagles moved to 10-6 and have a huge cross division game against Ohio on Saturday.
The Falcons moved to 7-9 and host the Huskies on Saturday.
