Oh fer no more.

What happens when a team that is 5-0 in the MAC hosts a 0-5 team on a Wednesday afternoon? Why the 0-5 team gets their first win, in dominating fashion, of course.

In the first quarter, Akron started the game hot from beyond the arc, going 6-10. Hannah Plybon led the Zips with 8 points. Janae Poisson was a spark plug for the Huskies off the bench, per usual, scoring 5. The Zips led 22-15.

What happened in the second quarter was pretty much the story of the game. Northern Illinois would make a little run, and the Zips would answer, usually with a couple of threes. All was not lost for the Huskies at this point, as they only trailed 33-26 at the half, and there was a feeling their potent offense was going to take off, once they woke up.

Haliegh Reinoehl led all scorers at the break, with 9 for the Zips. Alex Ricketts joined Plybon with 8.

Courtney Woods had 8 for the Huskies, and Poisson added 7.

In the third quarter, Akron’s lead would stretch a little bigger, and the tired Husky runs were becoming fewer and farther between.

Going into the 4th quarter the Zips held the lead on the score board 61-46 and on the glass 40-28. They had 15 offensive rebounds to just 5 for the Huskies.

Even though the kids in the stands were trying to will the Huskies back from the abyss, it never happened.

The Zips never let up, and won the game 84-55.

Hannah Plybon finished with 20, going 5-12 from beyond the arc for the Zips. Shaunay Edmonds and Reinoehl added 13. Akron’s Greta Burry led all rebounders with 11, and Caitlin Vary and Ricketts added 11 for the Zips.

Mikayla Voigt led the Huskies with 15 points, and Poisson added 14. Cassidy Glenn and Ally Lehman had 8 rebounds a piece and Glenn added 3 blocks for the Huskies.

Akron came into the game shooting 32% from beyond the arc. They hit 14-32 for 43.8% in this game. They held the rebounding edge for the game, 55-37.

On the season, the Huskies were 45% from the floor, but only managed to hit 23 of 69 shots, 33.3%

Akron moved to 8-9 overall and 1-5 in the MAC. They host Western Michigan on Saturday at 2pm.

Northern Illinois dropped to 12-5 and 5-1 in the MAC. They host Miami at 2pm Saturday.
