Western Michigan struggled to begin the season, partly because of all the new faces, and partly because of the schedule. Their main challenge was scoring. After a West Coast road trip with a close lose to Washington, and another semi-close loss to UCLA, the Broncos are rounding into form.
Seattle native Tucker Haymond seemed to respond the best to the West Coast, scoring 28 against Washington and following that up with a 16 point performance against UCLA. The Broncos need this type of scoring going into MAC play.
Freshman Reggie Jones has also picked up some of the scoring slack recently.
Thomas Wilder is leading the team in scoring, at 16.8 per game. His ability to control the tempo and help teammates with shot selection are also key for the Broncos to improve on their 4-8 non-conference record.
Ohio might be the favorite to win the entire MAC. They are led by the monster in the middle, Antonio Campbell. He is averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds per game. Jaaron Simmons, the junior guard from Dayton, is dictating play with a MAC leading 7.7 assists per contest.
Ohio is 8-3 on the season, and has legitimate NCAA aspirations.
