For the Central Michigan Chippewas, Tuesday night’s Mid-American Conference showdown with the Kent State Golden Flashes is about way more than the Chips continuing to be an offensive power and potentially winning their 4th straight contest after a somewhat rocky start to their 2017. Rather, it’s an opportunity for the Chips to secure their 7th win of 2017 and position themselves better in the pecking order for MAC bowl berths. Oh, and it’s also step one in the “Win the MAC West” plan that the Chips are still alive for. Sure, they need help in the form of the Toledo Rockets losing their last two games, but the most important step is CMU winning out. 50% of that mission can be achieved Tuesday.
Kent State comes into Tuesday’s contest with little to play for, other than pride and positioning for the offseason and 2018. Suffice to say this year didn’t go as planned for Kent State, but sometimes teams have to make the best of bad situations and look for positive opportunities despite the bleakest outlook. A win over the Chips would certainly help spoil their season but give Kent State players, staff, and supporters a small reason to be optimistic about the coming years for the Golden Flashes. Because right now, there aren’t a lot of those.
