MAC Basketball Daily Preview: 11/14/2017

Northern Illinois finally plays their first game

NCAA Basketball: Northern Illinois at Ohio State Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

The slate includes a couple of Horizon League foes and Ohio Northern.

Ohio Northern Polar Bears at Toledo Rockets

The Rockets opened up with a 98-87 victory over St. Joe’s behind a career high 31 points for Jaelin Stanford. The performance earned him MAC West Player of the Week. Nate Navigato tied a career high with 22 in that game.

The Rockets shouldn’t need such heroic performances against their division 3 foe this time out, but you never know.

The game will be televised on ESPN3 at 7pm.

Wright State Raiders at Miami RedHawks

The RedHawks squeaked by in a close win against Radford in their season opener. The Raiders lost a close game to Loyola-Illinois. A 2-0 start is a possibility for the RedHawks under first year coach Jack Owens.

This game also tips at 7pm and will be available on ESPN3.

Green Bay Phoenix at Northern Illinois Huskies

The Huskies open their season tonight by playing host to the Phoenix. The previously scheduled opener against St. Francis had to be postponed and they will play on Thursday.

This is also the season opener for the Phoenix, who finished last season 18-14, but managed to go 12-6 in the Horizon league. Green Bay holds a 24-5 edge in the all time series, but the two former conference foes have not met since 2007.

This game is at 7pm local, 8pm EST and available on ESPN3.

The last two games should be exciting contests between teams that share a regional footprint.
