The Football Writers Association of America announced the 6 semi-finalists for the Outland Trophy tonight. The Western Michigan Broncos Chukuma Okorafor made the cut. The 6’6, 330 pound senior from Southfield, Michigan, has been a big reason for the Broncos success running the football over the last few seasons.

The three finalists will be announced next week on The Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Special on ESPNU Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. No one from the MAC has ever won the award, and the last person from the group of 5 to win was Chad Hennings, a defensive tackle for Air Force in 1987.

The other semi-finalists are Billy Price from Ohio State, Mike McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson from Notre Dame, Orlando Brown from Oklahoma, and Ed Oliver from Houston.

Two group of 5 semi-finalists is quite notable, as the Outland usually is a “big school” award.
