Cecil Williams scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his second double double of the season, as Central Michigan made quick work of DIII Eureka College, 103-68. Central Michigan moves to 2-1 early on in the season. The Chippewas also tied the record for most three pointers made in a game at 20.
David DiLeo led all scorers with 28 points, while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out four assists. Gavin Peppers scored 17 points, Josh Kozinski added 12, and Luke Meyer scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Central Michigan used their height to their advantage over a smaller team, as they were able to shoot over the defenders and get the shots they wanted.
The Chippewas connected on 36 of their 79 shot attempts, good for 45.6% on the day. 3MU made a return, as the Chippewas launched 52 three pointers, and made 20 of them, good for a 38.5% clip. They also continued a strong free throw game, as the Chips made 11 of their 17 shots from the free throw line, at 73%. Central Michigan out-rebounded the Red Devils 55-38, showing their height and pace was to much for Eureka.
Hank Thomas led the way for Eureka, as he scored 21 points. Shea Feehan added 20 points of his own for the Red Devils, but they couldn’t get the past the improving defense of the Chippewas.
Eureka made 23 of their 73 shot attempts, a 31% clip, and connected on all 12 of their free throws. The Red Devils made 10 of their 28 shots from beyond the arc, good for 35% on the afternoon.
Central Michigan will head to Anchorage, Alaska to take place in the Great Alaska Shootout. CMU will face the Sam Houston State Bearkats on Wednesday, November 22nd. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m.
