Both Western Michigan and Akron Advance to Sweet 16 in NCAA Soccer Tournament

Broncos to take on Michigan State next

MLS: Eastern Conference Knockout Round-New York Red Bulls at Chicago Fire Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports

The Western Michigan Broncos continue their magical run as they beat Albany 2-0 today in the NCAA Tournament. Their 3rd round opponent is set, as Michigan State was able to knock off Virginia Tech, 3-0. Since the Spartans are the higher seed, the Broncos will make the hour and a half trip to East Lansing.

The Spartans were 5-0-3 this season in a loaded Big Ten that sent 5 teams to the NCAA tournament. The Spartans are 14-1-4 in their last 19 games at home.

The Akron Zips were impressive in their 3-0 win over Seattle. It was freezing cold, and our inside source may still be frozen to the bleachers. That’s good news, because the Zips be the host of their third round match. They will take on either Wisconsin or Notre Dame, who face off at 6 p.m. today.

This is Akron’s 32nd appearance in the NCAA tournament, where they have reached the championship game 3 times, and won it once in 2010.
