In their 3rd game in four days, the Ohio Bobcats and Indiana State Sycamores battled in a 4 overtime slug fest.
The Sycamores took a 40-24 lead into halftime. Early in the second half, the Sycamore lead climbed to 18 before Ohio slowly worked the lead down. It was 57-49 with 7:46 left. Ohio then went on a three point bonanza to end regulation. The last was by Gavin Block, who up to that point was having a terrible game offensively.
Both teams looked exhausted in the first overtime, and struggled to score. Then there was the second overtime, where Indiana State seemed to have control of the game. They were up 79-73 with just 28 seconds left. Then Jordan Dartis and Block hit a pair of big threes to tie it up.
The third overtime opened with a Brandon Murphy dunk and free throw that put Indiana State up by three, but then the two teams struggled to score. Freshman Teyvion Kirk hit the bucket to tie it up.
The 4th overtime was pure drama. Neither team had more than a possession lead until Block hit a bucket at the rim and a free throw after there was a foul. Qiydar Davis hit a jumper to put Indiana State down by two. The Bobcats ran the shot clock down till it expired, leaving 5 seconds left on the clock. The Sycamores got a nice look at the top of the key, but it rimmed out.
The Bobcats pulled out the improbable win, 96-94.
Mike Laster led the Bobcats with 25, while Dartis added 21 heroic points. Kirk finished with 20 points .Block finished with a timely 9 points.
Devin Thomas led the Sycamores with 17, 12 of which came from the free throw line.
