Sure, it’s Saturday and the pigskin rivalries are dominating people’s eyeballs today. But what about the MAC? We’re MAC-free on the gridiron, so we turn to the hardwood for the roundball festivities today. And what a Saturday it could be. There’s three marquee games on the schedule (one for a title, I might add) and three others that should provide a win for the MAC squads.
Marquee Games
Ball State Cardinals @ Indiana State Sycamores
Ball State was a popular pick to win the Mid-American Conference before the season dawned, but it has been a rocky start to the 2017-2018 campaign. Sitting at 1-4 on the season, with all their losses coming on the road, today’s road contest at Indiana State isn’t a “must win” for the Cards, but it would be a good turning of the tides. It’s a winnable game for Ball State, as the Sycamores are just 2-3 on the season with a win at Indiana highlighting their year. ISU’s three losses came in the Charleston Classic against Auburn, Old Dominion, and Ohio. Today’s game is a good measuring stick for both programs, as a win for either would be a much needed springboard into the heart of their schedule on a high note.

Akron will head to their in-state neighbor for their first road game of the season. The Zips, sitting at 2-0 on the year with wins over Cleveland State and Tennessee-Martin are facing perhaps their toughest test so far with a 2-2 Flyers squad with wins over Ball State and Ohio and losses to Hofstra and Old Dominion.

Central Michigan Chippewas vs Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners
Everyone says Alaska is a beautiful place to visit, but for the Chippewas they can leave the great white north with a shiny new trophy in addition to some picturesque memories this evening when they take on the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners in the Great Alaska Shootout Championship. CMU at 4-1 on the season, with their only loss at Michigan, is staking their claim that they are the team to beat in the MAC this season. A win late Saturday night would further cement that claim. Cal State Bakersfield is 4-2 on the year, with key losses to Arizona and Georgia Southern but an upset win last night over Idaho.
