Akron men’s soccer, which is generally the best chance for a MAC team national championship, continued their 2017 quest in the final 4 of the NCAA men’s soccer tournament. Their opponent was the 9th seeded Stanford Cardinal.
Stanford took control of momentum in the first half and maintained pressure on the Akron defense. Akron had a sloppy turnover, and Stanford made them pay at the 25:30 mark on a Foster Langsdorf goal.
In the second half, Akron did a better job of controlling the action, but two quality saves by Nico Corti kept the Zips at bay.
A goal by Stanford’s Sam Werner at the 78:52 mark ended the Zips season, as Stanford went on to win with the final score of 2-0.
