2016-17 MAC Women’s Basketball Power Rankings: Week 15

There is a new number 1

Kenneth Bailey

There were almost some major upsets last night, and that would have been terrible for these power rankings, as they were voted on earlier in the afternoon. Sometimes, it’s better to be lucky than good.

#11 (tie) Akron Zips

(9-15 overall, 2-11 MAC)

The Zips have lost 5 in a row. A visit to Buffalo could be 6.

#11 (tie) Eastern Michigan Eagles

(6-19, 1-12)

The Eagles have also lost 5 in a row, with Western Michigan up next.

#10 Bowling Green Falcons

(6-19, 2-11)

Miami is up next for the Falcons.

#9 Miami RedHawks

(9-17, 3-10)

Lauren Dickerson is averaging 15 points a game. That’s good enough to lead Miami, and all MAC freshman.

#8 Western Michigan Broncos

(15-9, 6-7)

A win against Bowling Green stopped a 5 game losing streak.

#6 (tie) Buffalo Bulls

(17-7, 7-6)

The Bulls are 2 games behind Ohio. Up next, Akron then the Bobcats. Those two games are practically must win if the Bulls want to win the East.

#6 (tie) Kent State Golden Flashes

(14-11, 8-5)

The Golden Flashes took advantage of their schedule, and have won 4 out of the last 5 to climb one game back in the East. Those 4 wins came against the bottom 4 in our power rankings. They play Ohio on Saturday, and it’s huge for their chances to win the East.

#5 Toledo Rockets

(17-7, 8-5)

After losing 3 in a row, the Rockets have won 5 out of 6. Up next is Central Michigan.

#4 Ball State Cardinals

(17-8, 10-3)

The Cardinals are one back from the West leaders. Both are left on their schedule, with a road game against Northern Illinois up next.

#3 Ohio Bobcats

(18-6, 9-4)

Had we voted after last night’s action, it’s safe to say Ohio and Ball State would have switched places. The Bobcats have won 5 out of 7, with both losses coming to Central Michigan

#2 Northern Illinois Huskies

(18-6, 11-2)

With Ball State and Central Michigan up next, the Huskies have a tough road. If they win both, they will certainly move to first place in the West, and our power rankings.

#1 Central Michigan Chippewas

(19-6, 11-2)

Winners of 5 straight, including a crucial win against Northern Illinois last week has vaulted the Chippewas into first place.
