Women’s NIT Bracket will include 5 MAC teams

The Women’s National Invitation Tournament announced their invitees, and 4 at large teams made the cut.

As the regular season champions, we knew that Presley Hudson and the Central Michigan Chippewas were getting an invite. With Toledo, who were the 6 seed in the MAC tournament, getting a 10 seed in the NCAA, we knew that the MAC was highly regarded. Not highly regarded enough to get a second NCAA bid, and we will discuss that in depth at a later time. This is a time to celebrate.

Along with the Chippewas, the Ball State Cardinals got an invite. They finished the regular season at 21-10. One of the more complete teams in the MAC, their invite was no surprise.

The N.I.T. wasn’t done, as they also included the Kent State Golden Flashes. Like their male counterparts, they finished the season on fire. Unlike the men’s side, they couldn’t win the MAC tournament, getting knocked out in the quarterfinals by eventual champions, the Toledo Rockets.

Up next out of the MAC, the Northern Illinois Huskies. Along with being one of the better teams in the conference, they have a great back story, with Ally Lehman and her bald head. Aside from cutting her hair off for cancer patients, including a teammate, and being in the ROTC, she is also one of the best players in the nation.

The last team to get an invite out of the MAC, the Ohio University Bobcats, finished the season with a record of 22-9. Led by Quiera Lampkins, the Bobcats have a chance to win it all.

In fact, all 5 teams had great seasons, and all 5 teams could win the entire thing. The bracket will come out tonight at 11:30. I’ll be tucked in my bed, as snug as a little bug in a rug. Tomorrow, I will analyze each team, their opponents, and their chance to to make it all the way.
