MAC Men’s Basketball Individual Award Winners Announced

DPOY, Sixth Man, and Freshman of the Year.

Defensive Player of the Year

Dontay Caruthers, Buffalo

The sophomore from Rochester helped the Bulls to an 11-7 conference record and a bye in the first round of the MAC tournament. He was 8th in the country in steal percentage, and was 4th in the conference with 1.9 steals per game, often on the opponents best guard.


Sixth Man Of the Year

Nick Perkins, Buffalo

The 6’8, 260 pound sophomore from Ypsilanti is 4th in the team in scoring, at 12.1 points per game. He leads the team with 6.6 rebounds. He had a season high 24 against St. Bonaventure.


Freshman of the Year

Michael Weathers, Miami

A true stat sheet stuffer, the guard from Roeland Park, Kansas, averaged 16.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.9 steals.

He already has a career high of 31 points, and had 22 points and 7 assists in the upset win against Akron.
