Sometimes good things come in small packages, and that’s exactly what the Browns are hoping for from this former Kent State Golden Flash. Murray wasn’t drafted. He was offered a spot in the Browns rookie camp, where he played well enough to earn a contract and a chance to make the 53 man roster.
According to this report from BrownsWire, the diminutive Murray really packs a punch, and is an aggressive tackler. He was also good in coverage in college, breaking up 14 passes, good enough for 9th in the nation.
He projects as either a slot corner, or safety. That versatility, plus the ability to play on special teams, should bode well for his chances of making the final roster. The Browns need a ton of help, and recently waived Tyvis Powell, a defensive back. The two were teammates on the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2012.
Currently, there are 19 defensive backs on the Browns roster, if you include Jabrill Peppers who was drafted in the first round, but remains unsigned. Last season they kept 10 to start the season, so Murray will have his work cut out for him.
