Toledo’s Sidnay Huck and Claire Aleck earn ITA Scholar Athlete Honors

Rockets getting it done on the court and the classroom

If you follow the Mid-American Conference, you know that the fall sports season is right around the corner. With it comes recognition for multiple preseason watch lists and prognostications about football, but there’s good news from other areas of the MAC as well, like two Toledo Rockets women’s tennis players earning Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete honors.

Senior Sidnay Huck and junior Claire Aleck earned 3.5+ GPAs for the preceding academic year, earning them the honor. To do that while competing in a varsity sport is exceptionally impressive.

Per Toledo’s release...

On Thursday, senior Sidnay Huck and junior Claire Aleck earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete honors for the 2017 season.

"I'm so proud of Sid and Claire to be named ITA Scholar Athletes," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "They are great leaders on and off the court and they do an amazing job of balancing life as a student-athlete."

Both Aleck and Huck were named Academic All-MAC this season. Aleck in singles play had a record of 13-17 and captured seven two-set victories. Huck earned MAC Doubles Player of the Week honors twice with partner Deedee Leenabanchong and registered a doubles record of 19-10 and 14-6 in dual matches.

About the ITA:
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

Congrats to Huck and Aleck for the accomplishment!
