Apparently leading the entire nation is a good way to get national recognition. Logan Woodside, the Toledo Rockets senior quarterback did exactly that last season and today he was named to the Manning Award watch list. That makes 4 watch lists for Woodside this preseason. The others are the Maxwell, O’Brien, and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Woodside’s 45 touchdown passes not only led the nation, but smashed the previous Rockets’ record by 16. He also threw for 4129 yards, and completed 69.1% of his passes.
One thing that will help this season is that the Rockets return two gifted receivers. Both Jon’Vea Johnson and Cody Thompson have been named to the Biletnikoff watch list.
The Manning Award is given to the best college quarterback and it’s in honor of Peyton, Eli, and Archie. Unlike other awards, it includes the bowl game. They’ll trim the list to 10 finalists on Thursday, November 30th. The winner will be announced a week after the playoffs.
