Central Michigan Wins Clash of the Titans

I don’t think we have seen the last of Buffalo

Kenneth Bailey

In a battle of the top two MAC women’s basketball teams, the Central Michigan Chippewas jumped out early on their home court against the Buffalo Bulls. Micaela Kelly finished an impressive first quarter with a layup, giving the Chippewas 23-12 lead.

It was more of the same in the second quarter, as a Presley Hudson three gave Central Michigan a 33-17 lead. Buffalo proved true to their scrappy nature, however, and battle back. Heading into the half, they were only down 38-35.

The third quarter saw the teams battle with Central Michigan slowly building a lead. Then Stephanie Reid got called for her 4th foul, which put Buffalo behind the 8 ball. Central Michigan capitalized, going into the 4th quarter with a 12 lead.

Without one of their leaders, the Bulls struggled to mount a serious charge and Central Michigan came away with the 86-79 win.

Tinara Moore led all scorers with 24 and all rebounders with 15. In all, five Chippewas scored in double figures, with Presley Hudson adding 22. Reyna Frost, who was a little quiet, still finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Bulls were led Cierra Dillard with 22 on an unusually cold shooting night. Reid added 20.

Buffalo struggled to put the ball in the basket, taking 17 more shots than the Chippewas.

For those of you wondering, these two teams face each other again in 2 weeks.
