Recap - Eastern Michigan Escapes With 28-26 Win Over Toledo

A close win is better than another close loss.

I’ll have better pictures, I promise.

Eastern Michigan started the scoring early as quarterback Mike Glass III pounded his way across the endzone to give an early 7-0 lead. After stopping Toledo and getting the ball back, Mike Glass III would pull away from the Toledo defense to give Eastern Michigan the 14-0 lead. After touchdowns by Willie Parker and Shaq Vann, Eastern Michigan would take a 28-3 lead into the locker room.

After Mike Glass went down with an injury at the end of the second quarter, it was up to Tyler Wiegers to take over the offense. He was okay but he didn’t bring that extra wrinkle that Mike Glass brought. The only scoring of the third quarter was a Jameson Vest field goal, bringing the score to 28-6.

Toledo finally got on the board at the 11:18 mark in the fourth quarter, after Cody Thompson was fed a pass from Mitchell Guadagni. Depsite trying, Eastern Michigan couldn’t get out of first gear. Toledo brought the game within a score after a 1 yard run by Shakif Seymour. It looked like there would be overtime in Ypsilanti after Mitchell Guadagni ran in for a touch down. Toledo tried for two but it was broken up by the Eastern Michigan defense. Eastern Michigan would end up winning by a final score of 28-26.

This would be the first Eastern Michigan victory over Toledo since 2006. With this, the Eagles move to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the MAC. Toledo moves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the MAC. The Rockets host Buffalo next weekend. The Eagles travel down to Ball State.
