I was bouncing between games as several MAC teams were playing basketball tonight, both on the men’s and women’s side. I was watching the Miami women pull away from a lesser team when I noticed Western Michigan was making a comeback against Oakland, a solid mid-major in the MAC’s backyard.
Western Michigan came all the way back and eventually won in overtime. Ho-hum, just another fantastic finish to a sporting even that involved a MAC team. That’s what we do around here.
Three Broncos accomplished a double double. Seth Dugan managed 20 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Flowers had 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists, while Josh Davis accumulated 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Kawanise Wilkins scored 20, with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Jared Printy basically hit the game winning three, while held mostly in check.
The Broncos showed they have a nice core of solid players. They showed grit against a solid Oakland squad with veteran leadership and young talent. What the Broncos have yet to show me is a deep bench. If seasoned coach Hawkins can develop his bench, watch out for the Broncos in the MAC tournament. If he can’t work his magic, they’ll still get their share of wins this upcoming season.
