The #MACsketball season is almost officially upon us, but the Miami RedHawks got in on the action early in a 84-53 of the Taylor Trojans (the Taylor Trojans of “Silent Night” fame) in an exhibition game at Millett Hall. Miami had four players score in double-figures as Milos Jovic led the way for the ‘Hawks with 13 points while Darrian Ringo, Dalonte Brown, and Abdoulaye Harouna contributed 12, 11, and 10 points respectively. Ringo led the team with four assists while Elijah McNamara dominated the boards with ten rebounds.
Nike Sibande, Bam Bowman, and Isaiah Coleman-Lands didn’t see the floor on Monday, so we’ll have to wait and see what their status is for Saturday’s season opener.
The Trojans were able to get out to a 5-0 lead to start the game before buckets by Jalen Adaway and Harouna opened up the scoring for Miami. The teams traded points in the early stages of the first half before the ‘Hawks went on a 16-0 run to take control of the game, with Ringo providing eight of those points. Miami coasted into the locker room with a 41-27 advantage with Ringo providing 10 points and a pair of three pointers.
The RedHawks came out at the start of the second half strong with an 8-2 run powered by three points from Harouna and Mekhi Lairy. Another big run of 8-0 helped carry Miami to a 61-36 lead with 11:02 remaining in the contest. The ‘Hawks salted the game away late in the second half with a decisive 19-7 run with five points each from Jovic and McNamara.
Miami opens the season on national television Saturday as they take on Butler on the road at 7 p.m.
