MAC Men’s Basketball Tournament Recap: #9 Bowling Green Falcons vs. #8 Central Michigan Chippewas

Cecil Williams led all scorers with 18 points, as Central Michigan moves onto Cleveland, defeating Bowling Green, 81-77 in Mount Pleasant.

Five different Chippewas scored in double figures, as Central Michigan defeated Bowling Green to move on to Cleveland. Central Michigan will now face Buffalo in the Quarterfinals in Cleveland.

Cecil Williams grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists to go along with his 18 points. Luke Meyer added 16 points, Shawn Roundtree Jr. scored 15 points, and Kevin McKay scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Roundtree Jr. also dished out five assists. David DiLeo earned a double double, as he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for CMU.

Central Michigan was able to make 24 of their 53 (45%) shot attempts on the night. The Chippewas were able to knock down 11 of their 28 (39%) shots from beyond the arc, and made 22 of their 30 (73%) attempts from the free throw line.

Three Falcons scored in double digits on the night. Justin Turner and Antwon Lillard scored 17 each, and Daeqwon Plowdon added 11 of Bowling Green. Turner added five assists, and Plowdon grabbed seven rebounds. Demajeo Wiggins grabbed 12 rebounds and scored three points.

Bowling Green made 28 of their 69 (41%) attempts from the field. The Falcons made nine of their 14 (64%) attempts from the charity stripe, and were able to knock down 12 of their 31 (39%) of their shots from three point range.

Just as predicted, this game was close throughout, as the Chippewas led by just three at halftime. CMU led most of the first half, but Bowling Green was able to keep the game close, and get the lead early in the second half.

The two teams would go back and forth, and Williams missed a shot at the buzzer, as BG forced overtime. CMU took over in overtime, as they were able to sink their free throws and earn the win. To reiterate, Central Michigan will face Buffalo in Cleveland. Tip is set for noon on Thursday, March 8th and will be aired on ESPN3.
