Buffalo QB Drew Anderson announces transfer

Drew Anderson played just five games as a Buffalo Bull, and his name is already etched into the school and conference record books.

But the quarterback is leaving New York and the conference, as he announced his transfer on his Twitter page Friday afternoon.

Anderson opts to grad transfer to Murray State of the FCS. The 6’5” quarterback from California played four games as a junior last season, briefly replacing the injured Tyree Jackson before suffering an arm injury in a loss to Northern Illinois on October 14.

Jackson eventually returned to the field at the end of the season, leading Buffalo to three-consecutive victories to attain bowl eligibility. However, the Bulls were one of three teams (Western Michigan, UTSA) to reach the six-win mark and not receive a bowl bid. After this breakout performance in November, it is likely Jackson, who is entering his junior season, will remain the starter next season. Therefore, Anderson will receive much more on-field action as a starter in the FCS.

Anderson’s impact as a Bull will always be remembered despite his short stint. He set program and MAC records for most passing yards and passing touchdowns (tied MAC record) in a single game. After a 71-68, 7OT loss to Western Michigan, Anderson finished with 597 yards through the air and seven touchdown passes — throwing zero interceptions on 61 attempts.

His final career stats as a Bull: 66/107, 1039 yards, 10 touchdowns, 1 interception.

The records he set last October will be tough to shatter, so Anderson’s legacy in the conference may stick around despite playing in just five contests.
