Mike Gundy is a character. He is probably more famous for the “I am a man” presser than he is for being the head coach of Oklahoma State and the quarterback when Bo Sanders was there. For those of you that have lived under a rock, let’s play it here!
I watched this video when it happened, and thought, “Wow, that’s a coach that is sticking up for a player, even if he isn’t happy with the player’s performance on or off the field”. I liked him. The video made me laugh, but I appreciated his heart.
A few years later, Central Michigan beat his team early in the season under questionable circumstances, and he accepted it like a man. Then, his team was up for a potential playoff spot, and he went against that. Even though I took shots at him at the time, I wanted to think he did that because his loyalty to his players should take priority over the “selection” process.
Mike Gundy just validated my belief in him with one simple tweet from one of the most respected members of the college football media. I’ll just leave it here.
Mike Gundy said he prefers an 8-team @CFBPlayoff (Power 5 conference champs, 2 wildcards & G5 team): “If you’re at a smaller (Group of 5) school you essentially have no chance to win a national championship because you’ll never get in & I don’t think that’s fair.”— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) July 17, 2018
